Saturday, September 5 and Sunday the 6th.
Be there!
McKee Botanical Garden's Second Annual Rare & Exotic Orchid Exhibition & Sale returns, and if last year is any indication, this year will be an even bigger hit.
A quick history lesson: During World War II, Britain shipped its rarest orchids across the Atlantic to dodge the bombing, straight to Arthur McKee to keep alive. This summer, McKee's own collection racked up four American Orchid Society awards.
The American Orchid Society itself is judging, alongside the Vero Beach Orchid Society. Growers Krull-Smith, Odom's Orchids, and Quest Orchids return, joined by newcomers Francisco Miranda Orchids and Mac Orchids.

Two speakers worth clearing your schedule for:
Saturday, 9:30 a.m., international taxonomist Francisco Miranda.
Sunday, 10 a.m., McKee's own Luis Ortiz Jordan. Hired this December as Orchid Collection Curator, the first to hold that title since David Fairburn in 1946. He discovered a new species in Puerto Rico that now carries his name, Eurystyles luisortizii, and judges for the American Orchid Society. He lands at McKee right as the Garden marks its Centennial.
Saturday 9 to 4, Sunday 9 to 3. Members get an 8 a.m. head start Saturday. Tickets at McKeeGarden.org.
