Horacio Lertora Returns to Gallery 14 -- Don't Miss First Friday, Nov. 6

Every gallery has a guest it can’t stop inviting back, and at Gallery 14 that’s Horacio Lertora. The pop artist returns to 14th Avenue this month with Coastal Rhythms: Hand Cut Stencil Art by Horacio Lertora. It’s a new collection that pairs his much-loved retro imagery with the sun-bleached, salt-air spirit of the Florida coast, and it runs from tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3 through November 27.

Lertora came to fine art by way of sign making and theater scenic design. Both trades depend on bold type and clean lines, and you can see that training in every hand-cut stencil: crisp and graphic, with a wink of nostalgia that has won him collectors well beyond Vero. He and his wife, the artist Melissa Mastrangelo, created the official poster for the 2019 Coconut Grove Arts Festival, one of the country’s biggest, and the pair now show on the festival circuit as far off as Texas.

The best night to go is Friday, November 6, when the gallery holds an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. during the First Friday Gallery Stroll.

Lertora is also joined by Gallery 14’s owner-artists Lila Blakeslee, John H. C. Davis, Barbara du Pont, Mary Ann Hall, Jessica Leto, Deborah Morrell Polackwich, Dorothy Napp Schindel and Evan Schwarze. They show alongside a dozen represented artists, with work that runs from watercolor and oil to sculpture, art glass, ceramics and jewelry.
