Vero Beach Life, Curated

Charlotte Tripson -- Waldo Sexton’s Great Granddaughter

If you’ve experienced the magic of the annual Artwalk at the Waldo Sexton homestead or attended a party or wedding at this unparalleled special event venue, you know how captivating the grounds are — a breathtaking blend of Robinson Crusoe meets lost paradise.

Waldo Sexton, the Vero pioneer behind McKee Gardens, Waldo’s, and the Ocean Grill, poured his unique vision into every inch of this property, and now his great-granddaughter Charlotte Tripson is revealing even more of its secrets.  A “treasure hunt” will happen one weekend of each month off 12th Street (dates to be announced) at the original Waldo Sexton homestead.  And in season only – October through May -- the emblematic meandering courtyards and tropical gardens are offered for special events.

We are about to be introduced to another intriguing piece of history — the dairy farm, the largest portion of the property, untouched and lost in time. Charlotte is embarking on the exciting task of uncrating several generations of vintage artifacts and antiques that have remained hidden on the site. She intends to offer it all for sale in an ever-changing gallery of local art and artisan works, curated monthly by Katherine Larsen of Isola Arts. It’s an ongoing art and antiques fest that promises fresh treasures every time.

Charlotte and her brother Mark have their treasure salvors’ work cut out for them as they dig through layers of history! The treasures they uncover will surprise them as much as it will surprise collectors of all things unique and rare, each with the potential to take home a one-of-a-kind piece of Sexton history.

Charlotte assures us the inventory looks to be unlimited. With each monthly haul, along with the addition of local gallery art, there will always be something new and exciting to discover.

The first event held on May 2nd and 3rd was a smashing success. Guests reveled in delicious food and drinks while soaking in the garden’s enchanting atmosphere, all capped off with an honorary Chamber ribbon cutting and plenty of cheer.

Be warned—leaving the exotic canvas of Waldo’s Garden is like stepping out of a Wonderland looking glass back into routine life. However, taking home a piece of Sexton’s funky objects d’art or vintage memorabilia makes it easier to say "goodbye for now."
