For the first time in over 50 years, humans are returning to the moon! Four astronauts are launching from Kennedy Space Center this Wednesday evening on the crewed Artemis II mission for a 10-day lunar fly-by, just 75 miles up the road from us.
In Greek mythology, Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo; today she lends her name to the program meant to finish what NASA's Apollo program started.
This is not a moon landing like Neil Armstrong’s. Rather, it's a test flight to prove the hardware works; a kind of dress rehearsal before boots actually hit the lunar surface again.
Step outside at 6:20 p.m. this Wednesday, look northwest, and you’ll see a bright light climbing into the sky, knowing you’re watching history being written in real time.
Cloud conditions are looking favorable. Don’t miss it!
