A Broadway Evening with Riverside’s Friends

Tony Award‑winner Stephanie J. Block and Broadway leading man Sebastian Arcelus brought their celebrity shine to the Stark Stage last Monday, headlining Broadway Night at Riverside in an evening of songs and stories presented by the Friends Committee.

Executive Friends Cindy Rounsavall and Wheatie Gibb, with event co‑chairs Marcy DeWolfe and Paula Shorts, have given the Friends real strategic heft: their work underwrites not only evenings like Broadway Night, but a full education structure, from Kevin Quillinan’s sequence of classes, youth productions, “schoolsicals,” and national‑level festival work with GYAC students to Adam Schnell’s conservatory‑caliber ballet and dance track leading into Nutcracker on the Indian River and the Riverside Dance Festival.

In that context, the current Jesus Christ Superstar on the Stark Stage is a natural expression of Riverside’s ambition. Critics have highlighted the strength of the cast, the staging, and the way the piece still lands with full rock opera force in 2026. Around it sits the larger experience of pre‑show fine dining, The Loop Kitchen & Bar, and classrooms and studios in constant use, all shaped to a significant degree by the Friends’ dedication to supporting Broadway‑quality professional theatre in Vero Beach.

Catch Jesus Christ Superstar before it closes March 22. The season rolls on with Almost, Maine and 9 to 5. Purchase tickets directly online at www.riversidetheatre.com or call the box office at (772) 231-6990. And remember to purchase ONLY through these methods and avoid the third-party scalper sites that often appear in search results to ensure valid seats without the wildly inflated markup, often exceeding 2-3x face value.
