On Thursday evening, Vero Minute and Page Wallace assembled a crowd of 75 Devil Wears Prada fans in black dresses, jackets, and heels that would not have looked out of place on the Upper East Side. All gathered for an advance screening of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the Majestic 11.
Champagne in hand, guests moved through the lobby and compared when they had last seen the original. The evening had a sense of occasion that went way beyond simply “catching a movie.”
Once inside, the Majestic 11 did exactly what Hollywood is built for.
The screen took over, the sound snapped into place, and the studio logo drew the kind of hush you get only when the room is eagerly anticipating a great movie. Popcorn with real butter, a concession stand that didn't disappoint, and an immaculately clean theater. The set‑up was simple, but the mood was unmistakable, reminding us Netflix and Doordash are no substitute for the silver screen.
The Majestic 11 has upgraded and invested in “the experience” at exactly the moment Hollywood is coming back strong by sending in a summer’s worth of films that are built to be taken in with others, in the dark, and on a screen big enough to make everything else feel like a compromise.
Somewhere along the way, alot of us got out of the habit of "going to the movies."
Streaming and takeout had their moment, but in Vero Beach, we're lucky we have a true neighborhood cinema.
Thursday's Prada evening said it all: it's time to put the cinema back into regular use, and no better time than this summer where you'll also be craving that crisp refreshing breeze of industrial air conditioning!
In addition to the Devil Wears Prada 2, you can now catch Michael, the highly anticipated biopic on the King of Pop. Star Wars returns May 22 with The Mandalorian and Grogu. Toy Story 5 hits June 19, live-action Moana July 10, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey July 17, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.
