As growth and urban sprawl increasingly encroach on agricultural acreage, one question is on everyone's minds: what will farming and agriculture look like in Indian River County in 10-20 years...and who will decide?

This Wednesday, December 3, that question takes center stage at Let’s Talk Agriculture, the latest installment in Let's Talk Vero's monthly civic salon at Riverside Theatre. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

This month brings together a powerhouse panel with varied perspectives on the future of agriculture in the County:

  • Wesley Davis: Indian River County Property Appraiser and a fourth-generation farmer, with deep roots in local agriculture and long experience in public service and land stewardship

  • Louis Schacht: Owner of Schacht Groves, a family-run operation dating back to the 1950s, now evolving into a diversified, small-scale farm and market that connects directly with consumers through produce, farm-market goods, and farm-to-table experiences

  • Laura Moss: County Commissioner for District 5, offering a critical policy and land-use lens on agriculture’s future in Indian River County

  • Tony Cho: co-founder of the ChoZen Center for Regenerative Living on the St. Sebastian River, a nationally recognized leader in urban regeneration and sustainable development whose work bridges real estate, climate, and culture—bringing both a developer’s vision and a preservation-minded approach to local land and food systems.

Moderated by Baerbel O’Haire, the evening will cover a discussion that explores Indian River County's traditional grove-and-cattle model as well as the emerging ecosystem of small farms, market growers, farm-to-table and more.

The “Let’s Talk” series has quickly cemented itself as a gathering space for civic-minded residents — a place where you can catch up with friends, meet new faces, and engage with local issues without blocking off the entire morning or evening required for a City Council meeting. Formats and topics shift month to month, ranging from housing and the environment to growth, and now agriculture — but the goal stays the same: making important civic conversations easy and accessible for everyone.

Doors open at 5 PM with complimentary gourmet sandwiches and a cash bar before the program begins at 5:30. For more information and to RSVP, click here.
