Barry Shapiro's Treasure Coast Sock Drive is back, and it kicks off with two great ways to make a difference.
It starts with Cops and Socks on Thursday, February 5, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Coffee House 1420.
Vero Beach police officers will be your baristas serving complimentary coffee for anyone who brings in a donation of new socks.
Then on Saturday, February 7, it’s the annual Treasure Coast Sock Drive Sock Hop and Valentine's Dance at Walking Tree Brewery from 7 to 10 p.m.
To date, more than 63,178 new pairs of socks have been collected and distributed to those in need across the Treasure Coast.
Donations from the drive support a host of local organizations working directly with people and families in need, including The Source, Hope for Families Center, Gifford Youth Achievement Center, SafeSpace, The Samaritan Center for Homeless Families, Hibiscus Children’s Center, Camp Haven, Our Father’s Soup Kitchen, LifeNet4Families, Vietnam Veterans of Indian River County, IRC United Against Poverty, Sebastian Women’s Shelter, Camelot Community Care, HAB Center, New York City Relief for the Homeless, Livingston Philanthropies, Salt of the Earth, River Fellowship, First Baptist Church of Vero Beach, and others.
The Treasure Coast Sock Drive runs through February 28. You can find donation locations and the Amazon wish list at treasurecoastsockdrive.com.
