Empty The Shelters Is Back!
The Humane Society shelter on 77th is back at it for Empty the Shelters. Third round this year with the Bissell Pet Foundation, which either means the formula works or the shelter just doesn't stay empty for long. CEO Nichola Redmond's take, from the shelter's own press release: "Unfortunately, our shelter never is actually empty, as we receive animals almost daily."
Pricing remains unchanged from July. Puppies 6 months to a year, $70. Dogs 1 to 8 years, $50. Kittens under 6 months, $70 with the second one still free (in other words, BOGO on kittens is back). Cats 7 months to 8 years, $35.
If you missed the origin story last time, the short version is Cathy Bissell (yes, the vacuum company) adopted a lab named Bear and decided the best way to get more people adopting was to make the process cheaper for a couple weeks at a time. Since then, nearly half a million pets have been placed in forever homes since the program launched in 2016, still the largest funded adoption event in the country.
This round began September 18 and runs through the 30th, 11 to 6 weekdays, 11 to 5 weekends, at 6230 77th Street. See who's currently up for adoption here.
