Twilight Temptations at McKee: Thursday Evenings in July

Updated: Jul 8

"A walk in nature walks the soul back home." Mary Davis

For the first time ever, McKee Botanical Garden extends its hours on Thursday evenings, inviting guests to walk the Garden's historic paths in the cool, golden light of dusk. Then relax on the Garden Cafe Terrace for a glass of wine, a cold beer and live music. And why not dinner too?

The Garden Café, led by celebrated Chef Dan Overstreet and a destination in and of itself, offers something for every palate—from the elegant honey-roasted pear salad, celebrated for its fresh, seasonal balance, to the bold “Wild Waldo” burger. This signature burger, a tribute to McKee’s adventurous founder Waldo Sexton, features a juicy brisket-and-beef patty topped with melted cheese, crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, and a special house sauce—rich, smoky, and satisfyingly wild.

Whether you seek the sophisticated lightness of the salad or the robust, spirited flavors of the “Wild Waldo,” McKee’s Thursday twilight offerings promise a memorable evening.

Live music will be performed by local singer-songwriter Kat Woods, whose soulful vocals and ukulele stylings offer a fresh take on crowd favorites. She'll be joined by Jay Hansen on cajon percussion for a vibrant and engaging set each Thursday evening, except on July 31st, when acoustic duo Charise Courtney on vocals and upright bass, and Andrew Ramjiawan on acoustic guitar will play a mix of easing going, familiar, classic hits.

Admission is free for McKee members, $20 for adults, and $15 for children. Join a complimentary tour at 5:15 pm. The last garden entry is 6:15 pm, unless you just want a quick bite in the Garden Cafe. Last dinner order is 6:30 pm.
