This Saturday, September 20, Coastal Connections hopes to break their own record for their fourth year in a row of hosting the International Coastal Cleanup across 24 locations in Indian River County.
Last year, over 1,100 community members hauled away 2,653 pounds of debris in just two hours, making it one of the largest beach cleanups in Indian River County history.

Since taking over from the now-dissolved Keep Indian River Beautiful, Coastal Connections has made several changes. They've added a competitive element with three contests:
Green Team Spirit: the individual team with the most people in attendance
Trashy Treasure Trophy: the most unique, eccentric item found
Trashiest Location: the location with the highest average of pounds of debris collected
The morning's work also earns you an invitation to the after-party celebration at Walking Tree Brewery from 11:30am to 1:30pm, another addition made by Coastal Connections.
This event is part of Ocean Conservancy's broader International Coastal Cleanup movement, a 40-year initiative that has removed over 380 million pounds of trash worldwide and now spans more than 100 countries.
