Rev. Dr. Jacob W. Kines: A New Chapter in a Storied History

The Community Church of Vero Beach is entering an exciting new chapter with the arrival of Rev. Dr. Jacob W. Kines as its new Senior Minister. 

Founded over a century ago in 1924 by 83 visionary individuals, the Woman’s Club of Vero Beach generously offered its space for the church’s first gatherings. Today, The Community Church is a uniquely inclusive community, drawing members from over 50 different denominational backgrounds as well as welcoming individuals who identify as non-believers. 

While maintaining a non-denominational identity and its affiliation with the United Church of Christ, the church actively embraces people from all faith journeys and those with no specific religious affiliation. This wide-ranging inclusivity underscores their commitment to creating a welcoming and unified community for everyone, regardless of their beliefs.

From the beginning, The Community Church of Vero Beach has been guided by a powerful conviction: “There is more that binds us together than separates us in the worship of God.” This belief shaped a culture of openness and “extravagant hospitality” that continues to define the church today. 

Through every stage of its journey, The Community Church of Vero Beach has remained a place where people from all walks of life can find connection, meaning, and purpose. It has also been a consistent force for good in the broader community, supporting efforts that serve:

• Those facing food insecurity

• Individuals experiencing homelessness

• Earth Care initiatives to promote care for God’s creation

• Children & Youth outreach, partnering with various organizations which provide resources, mentoring, and education.
