On Saturday, July 12, the Vero Beach Museum of Art opens A Tangled Plot, a striking exhibition of more than 40 paintings and mixed-media works by Miami artists Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson. Their collaborative process—taking turns layering ideas and images—creates complex narratives where Florida’s landscapes, wildlife, and human figures intertwine and transform.
The exhibition unfolds in three parts: Metamorphosis centers on hybrid alligator-women symbolizing adaptation and survival; Setting the Stage focuses on plants and animals, exploring nonhuman awareness; and Unreliable Narratorsfeatures women interacting with nature in ways that evoke folklore and question power dynamics.
On opening day, July 12, visitors can meet the artists and sketch alongside them, with free admission all day. This rare opportunity offers a direct connection to the creative energy behind these layered, evolving works.
A Tangled Plot runs through October 5 at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, inviting viewers to unravel the complex stories embedded in the natural world and reconsider their own place within it.
