The Cave Gallery of Art is bringing fresh energy to Vero Beach’s cultural and creative core, just a few steps from 1420 Coffee House

What began as Gallery Veritas—founded by Barry Shapiro and Xaque Gruber —is entering an exciting new chapter under abstract and mixed-media artist Lisa Cave.

Barry Shapiro, who has long been central to the gallery’s story, continues to anchor the studio space next door, where visitors can watch artists at work and see the creative process unfold firsthand. The studio, with Shapiro and three other artists, remains a living workshop steeped in community and collaboration.

At The Cave Gallery next door, Lisa is focused on giving emerging artists regular opportunities to showcase their work. With new exhibitions and featured artists each month, Lisa is committed to making sure there’s always something different on the walls and fresh talent for the community to experience.

The Cave Gallery will open its doors for the first time on Sunday, September 28th, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, with an exhibition featuring more than 15 artists working across a spectrum of mediums. The inaugural show will run through November 15th.

As this renewed vision unfolds, Gruber—the original co-founder—continues to shine in his own right. His film Sallywood, which premiered at the 2024 Vero Beach Film Festival, has been picked up for wider distribution. The achievement has put both Gruber and Vero Beach on the national stage, a reminder that Vero Beach is home to extraordinary creative talent.

With Shapiro’s studio and Cave’s gallery alongside other respected downtown art spaces, Vero Beach continues to make its mark as a destination arts district—an identity that’s increasingly central to the city’s brand.
