Busting the "Zero Beach" Myth

For too long, Vero Beach has carried the nickname "Zero Beach"—a nod to the lack of young energy in a town known for being "for the newly wed or nearly dead." But two remarkable women are proving that narrative wrong, one social gathering at a time.

Meet Hallie Gaudio and Kelsey Ingerto, the dynamic duo who refused to accept the status quo. These two visionary women saw what was missing in their town and decided to become the change they wanted to see. Together, they founded the Vero Beach Social Club, transforming a simple observation—that their coastal community lacked social opportunities for people in their mid-20s to mid-40s—into a thriving club.

What makes their partnership so powerful is their shared commitment to community building. Gaudio and Ingerto didn't just want to create events; they wanted to create belonging. Their vision extends far beyond typical social gatherings—they're intentionally crafting experiences that turn strangers into friends and newcomers into locals.

The Vision

Gaudio and Ingerto's approach is beautifully intentional. They understood that creating community requires more than just organizing events—it demands consistency, inclusivity, and genuine care for bringing people together. Their decision to move events around town rather than establish a fixed location reflects their understanding of community building: they're meeting people where they are while showcasing the full breadth of what Vero Beach offers.

"We love Vero, but we felt that the missing piece was the social opportunities for people our age," they explain. This simple statement reveals the founders' unique combination of love for their hometown and honest assessment of its gaps—exactly the mindset needed to create lasting change.

Their monthly events range from happy hours and workout classes to volunteer opportunities and creative gatherings. Each experience serves multiple purposes: bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and showcasing what makes Vero Beach special.

Why It Matters

The Vero Beach Social Club addresses fundamental needs—connection, community, and belonging—that affect everyone. In an era of increasing social isolation, their commitment to face-to-face gathering is both radical and essential.

Their goals are refreshingly ambitious: prove young people in Vero Beach exist, bust the "Zero Beach" myth, and provide outlets for fun while making genuine friendships. They're joined by groups like Young Adults of Vero Beach, creating a network of connection opportunities.

The Ripple Effect

When young adults feel connected and invested in their community, they're more likely to stay, start businesses, and contribute to local culture. By fostering these connections, Gaudio and Ingerto are helping ensure Vero Beach's future vitality while supporting the local businesses that make their Vero unique.

A Blueprint for Community

The story of the Vero Beach Social Club proves meaningful change doesn't require massive resources—sometimes it just takes two people who care enough to act.

In a world that often feels divided, the simple act of bringing neighbors together speaks volumes. That's why everyone should care —it's a blueprint proving that "Zero Beach" was never about the place itself, but more about creating the right opportunities for connection.
