Coastal Connections held a turtle dig last Thursday (these digs are held frequently and you may register for one on their website) offering participants a chance to observe the careful excavation of sea turtle nests. During the dig, volunteers uncovered eggshells and unhatched eggs, collecting valuable data used to analyze hatch success rates and better understand Vero Beach’s turtle population.

This hands-on experience highlights the detailed scientific work that supports sea turtle conservation efforts. Those interested in participating can find more information and sign up for upcoming turtle digs at https://coastal-connections.org/turtle-digs.
